More Than a Tournament: ANNIKA WAPT Makes a Difference in Alexandria

Alexandria, La. - The ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour has proven to be more than just a professional playing ground; it has also become a meaningful force in supporting local communities at each stop on the tour.
The Coke Dr. Pepper Open, hosted in Alexandria, is a strong example of that impact, serving as a major source of support for the Manna House. For 36 years, the Manna House has provided hot meals 365 days a year to people of all ages, becoming what many consider a saving grace.
“This ANNIKA WAPT tournament and Pro-Am is our largest fundraiser for the Manna House,” said Jessica Viator, Executive Director of the Manna House. “We don’t get any government funding of any kind, so we rely heavily on this tournament to bring in funds to operate throughout the year, so those who are suffering from food insecurity can come here to get something to eat.”
With the Manna House growing from serving 55,000 meals a year to now feeding on average 10,000 meals a month, Viator says these numbers should speak volumes highlighting the increasing demand for support.
“This is the state of the economy and the world today; it’s just not quite the same as it was, and things are more expensive. That is why we rely on the ANNIKA WAPT and the sponsorships so that we can continue the mission to alleviate hunger in our community,” said Viator.
Beyond its charitable efforts, the Coke Dr Pepper Open also delivers a significant economic boost to Alexandria. With week-long events bringing in players, families, and sponsors, local hotels and restaurants see increased business throughout the tournament.
“I think this event is a win-win situation. Not only is this the Manna House’s signature event, but the impact by the tour coming to Alexandta, Louisiana is great for the economy. It’s approximately half a million dollars of revenue for our city, so that’s really great. In addition to that, all the sponsors that get involved and all the advertising and recognition they get is very beneficial. It's really more of a community event,” said Viator.
Now entering its fourth year in Alexandria for the 2026 season, the Coke Dr Pepper Open has not only made a local impact but has also given players the opportunity to see firsthand how their involvement extends beyond the course.
During tournament week, players have the opportunity to volunteer at the Manna House, helping prepare, package, and serve meals to those in need.
Krista Junkkari, an ANNIKA WAPT player and ANNIKA Development Program ambassador, volunteered at last year’s event and says it’s important to bring awareness to these organizations who help people everyday.
“Golf is always golf, but there's some bigger things in this world and more important things to do, and I think here we can help make the world a better place,” said Junkkari. “It’s important when we get to a town for a tournament, we don't just focus on the golf aspect, but find ways to help the area any way we can. I think the ANNIKA Women’s All Pro Tour does a great job in wanting to lend a helping hand.”
The Coke Dr Pepper Open is scheduled for April 16-18, at Links on the Bayou.
