US Restoration Northshore Championship Round One Recap

(Mandeville, LA) — Wind, wind and more wind. That was the predominant factor for round one of the US Restoration Northshore Championship held at Beau Chene Country Club. With tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m., players felt the 20 mph wind gusts bright and early. With the course’s narrow fairways and various penalty areas, finishing in the red was near to none. Maria Balcazar (Mexico) and Jean Reynolds (Newman, GA) were the only to players card under par.

Sitting at the top of the leaderboard is Balcazar who turned in a 2-under 70, while Reynolds signed for a 1-under 71.

“Today was definitely a lot different than when we played in the practice round because of the wind. But I just kept telling myself to play with the wind and not against it,” said Balcazar. “A lot of different tee shots that I played I had to make adjustments, which was fun.”

Although Reynolds finished one back from Balcazar, she ended the day with the most birdies out of the field, putting six circles on her card.

Following right behind Balcazar and Reynolds in T3 is Angelina Ye (Shanghai, China), Lauren Lightfritz (Suwanee, GA), Kiana Oshiro (Central Point, OR) and Lizzie Win (Orlando, FL) at an even par 72.

Ye finished at even par for the day, and carded five birdies on her scorecard for holes 3, 8, 15, 17 and 18. Gabby Lemiuz (Caldwell, ID) who is T16 also had five circles, but found herself in trouble with double-bogeys on holes 3,5 and 7.

The second round will be a double-tee start at 8:00 a.m. at Beau Chene Country Club with players looking to get inside the cut line. The cut will be made to the top 40% and ties.
